My FAA Knowledge Test on 02/03/2012

This morning (at 11.00 am on 01/26/2012) I finally made arrangements to take my FAA Knowledge Test with LaserGrade who is now part of PSI (or is PSI now) Testing Services which provides online exams for various organizations. I decided to apply now because of two reasons. Firstly, I believe I’m now almost ready to take the test, and secondly because I also received an email from my Ground School i.e. Twin Cities Aviation that they will be starting IFR classes on February 7th, 2012. The IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) class will cover the Instruments used in an airplane. What I’ve done thus far and what the exam I’m going to take will cover is called VFR i.e. Visual Flight Rules, which is to do with flying the plane without using instruments. Once you’re instrument rated you’re able to fly in pretty much all kinds of weather. So I would like to finish the VFR completely before starting my IFR classes.

I called the following number (1-800-211-2754) given to us by Mr. Whipple to set up the test, and he told us that when we call we should mention if we were members of AOPA (Aircraft Owner’s and Pilot’s Association) as this would give us a $10.00 discount. When I called I was put on hold for a few minutes and then a lady came on the phone and I told her that I would like to make an appointment to take the FAA Knowledge Test for Private Pilots. She then asked me for my name, address, Social Security Number (or Date of Birth instead of the SSN) and if I was a citizen. She then asked if I was going to pay using a Debit or a Credit Card, and I said the latter. Once all this information was taken she then gave me a few options as to where I could take the test, and one of these was my school Twin Cities Aviation in Blaine, and of course this is the one I opted for. Then she asked me when and what time I would like to take the test. I requested Friday, February 3rd, 2012. After this she asked me if I would like to take the test at 8.00 am, 11.00 am or lastly at 2.00pm and I chose the 2.00pm time slot. Finally she asked me for my email address to send the registration confirmation letter which I will need to take with me to the testing center. She then proceeded to tell me that I should be at the testing center 30 minutes before the test, and that I will be allowed to have a calculator, the E6B Flight Computer and a Plotter. I said thank you and asked her if there’s anything else I should know or do before the test. “No that’s it, and if you do have any questions you may give us a call on this number or the number in the invoice that I’m going to email you” she said. “Ah okay, thank you again,” I replied, and with that the phone call came to an end. Below is the registration confirmation I received with some amendments of course for the sake of privacy 😀
